A great question was asked to me in-world (hi Medoix) – is it possible to build a bridge over a Linden-owned road? Anyone know of this happening? It would seem there’d be permissions issues but if someone has a solution it’d be a great one to share. Hell, there’s probably a business model in building bridges!

Given that the longest object you can link is a 40m straight section, the middle would be at the 20m mark and I think a linden road may be more than 20m wide (including the actual land). So the bridge would never actualy meet in the middle. If anyone (like me) has had something come across a border then you know that as long as the centre of the object is on your land, then the remainder of the object can hang over to another person’s land. Quite anoying really. But you only really have about 15m penetration.
What I find annoying about linden roads, is that you can’t rez a vehicle there as it is no build. I think they should be converted to a reasonable – auto return, but there may be other reasons why this is as it is.
I dunno.

There’s a couple bridges over a stretch of Linden Land that used to be a side-street. Check the NCI plaza in sim Kuula, and you’ll see it.

I know! I know!
Zak and I own a plot that borders both sides of a Linden road, and one day on a lark we decided to see if we could put a bridge across. Auto-return KILLED that dream! As far as I can tell, each object is plotted on the grid at it’s center axis (the intersection of x,y,z). As long as that center axis is not on Linden land, you can safely overlap it without fear of auto-return – so up to 5m max. Once that axis crosses, the object becomes a trespasser.
I read at one point that bridges can be considered on a case-by-case basis, but that it is difficult to get this done because Linden doesn’t have the resources available to do constant construction for members. Fair enough, but it would be nice to see SOME options for folks like Zak and I. (In their defense, Linden was nice enough to move trees out of the sightlines of our doors, but I would have liked to see them removed altogether, or pushed out of the borders of our plot at least.)
As for vehicles, I agree you should be able to take them on Linden roads (where else are you supposed to go – sandboxes?) The funny thing is that the option is there to allow people to bring items in without actually building on the land. Why isn’t it activated? Who knows. Hopefully there will be changes to all of this in the future.

There is a walkway/bridge over a Linden “road” in Salgu.
Its Adjacent to Bedrock Casino.
It appears that the owners of the casino, also own the land on the opposite side of the road

Thanks for all the comments people, i have done it!
i basically took Orion notes and worked with them. i put 4 10m long planks together and linked them end by end. then put this on one side of the road with the halfway mark clearly on my land, then made another exact copy and put it on the other side clearly still half on my land, and they met in the middle over the linden road. now if you do this you have 40m to play with and i don’t think any linden road is 40m wide…
happy building, thanks again.

Just build your bridge and link it up with the root prim on your land. 30m is the link limit (you’ll notice with 4 10m prims linked in a row, the centre of the furthest 2 prims is actually 30m from each other) so with that you can build a nice bridge over a road and place the root prim on your land.
If you wanted a big bridge, just build half in your land, half in your mate’s land and make them meet in the middle, unlinked.
Happy Bridging.

The question isn't *can* you build a bridge over Linden roads (because you can), but *should* you. If they interfere with the ability of people to use the road as a road the Lindens will return it to you. It's essentially parcel encroachment and way you slice it. Remember… it's not your land. It's public property. If you build any sort of bridge it should be like a scripted drawbridge that only appears when you need it. Otherwise you can look forward to finding it in your lost and found eventually.
btw, the new Linden roads are being made with places to rez vehicles every so often so you won't have the problem Orion talked about.

well… having land to one of those Linden roads that are not paved.. never have been and probably won't be .. of course we built bridges. We make them high enough so that you can sail under them with a yacht…. and nobody has ever complained. Nobody has ever looked at them.. I guess. nobody.. ever cared about the bumpy grass plane they call a “road” in our sim.
By now we took down the bridges.. and instead simulated our own road pavement by using megaprims pushed in place and anchored on our land. Totally unsatisfactory of course.. but since nobody but us seems to care…

Yes, it is possible. You have to own (or be allowed permission to build) on both sides of the road. There's a trick to it though. Your bridge has to have it's root prim located well within the bounds of the property you're allowed to build on. On the other side of the road, it would be well advised to have the permission of (or own) the land that the bridge will end up on. Building in two large pieces that join over the center of the road is probably best advised (mostly because of the restriction on distance for objects. Also, remember to allow clearance for larger vehicles. I've done this before and didn't have any problems from the lindens or anyone else, though I made sure the only infringement was quite a bit over the road and not really restricting any access over or on the road.
Cheers
