The Metaverse Journal under its current masthead launched on 5th December 2007, previously called SLOz (Second Life Oz) from December 2006 until then.
The mission has always been the same: to report on interesting stories coming from virtual worlds / the metaverse, from a uniquely Australian perspective.
Dr David Holloway – Editor
I’ve been writing in the area of virtual environments since 2006, initially focusing on Second Life and then expanding to a wider brief. My core interest is the health, education and creative arts applications of the metaverse.
Inspired by the work I saw occurring in Second Life in particular, I commenced my PhD studies, completing them in late 2021. My research was focused on the application of virtual environments in teaching medication safety principles to nursing students. This research allowed me to take a deep dive into virtual environments and simulation, further motivating my interest in the metaverse more broadly.
